Guwahati, Jan 2: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has lodged two separate chargesheets in the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Guwahati, Assam against five individuals in connection with two intertwined cases of ethnic violence in Manipur.
The case was registered by the CBI in August 2023, following a request from the Manipur government. The CBI took over an earlier investigation based on an FIR at a police station in Imphal against a minor boy.
The complainant alleged that their minor daughter had been missing since July 6, 2023, and was supposedly kidnapped by the minor boy to force her into marriage. Concurrently, the accused minor boy’s father filed a complaint stating that his son, who left home on a bike on July 6, 2023, had not returned.
The investigation revealed that the boy picked up the girl from her tuition class on his bike and proceeded towards Bishnupur and then to Thas View Point Area on Old Cachar Road.
They were allegedly intercepted, kidnapped, and transported to an undisclosed location by the accused, leading to suspicions of their deaths. Five suspects have been arrested and are currently in legal custody. The investigation is ongoing.
