Bhopal, Jan 3: Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh has welcomed three new cheetah cubs, born to Namibian Cheetah ‘Aasha’ on Wednesday.
Bhupender Yadav, the Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change, shared a video of the newborns on social media platform ‘X’, terming the event as a significant success for Project Cheetah, initiated by PM Narendra Modi to restore ecological balance.
This marks the first such birth in the national park since March 2023 when another Namibian Cheetah, Jwala, gave birth to four cubs, of which only one survived.
Officials are optimistic about the survival chances of these new cubs, attributing it to their winter birth, in contrast to Jwala’s summer-born cubs.
The births are seen as a positive sign of a conducive environment at Kuno. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also expressed his congratulations to all involved in the Cheetah project.
