DIMAPUR, May 30 (NNN): The Global Naga Forum (GNF) said (Late) Margaret Shishak lived an extraordinary life of sacrifice and full of grace. The GNF said this while condoling the demise of Margaret.
Married to Rev. Dr. Tuisem Shishak, she left her American home to come to Nagaland and pioneered the building of Patkai Christian College in 1974 along with her husband from scratch to where it is today – a premier educational institution in the country, the first college in the North East India to be recognised as an ‘Autonomous College’ and currently recognised by UGC as a ‘College with Potential for Excellence’.
According to the GNF, with her gift of music laden with a deep sense of mission, she dedicated her entire life to the Naga young people’s music education, especially church music, for the glory of God. She was never on the payroll of the college, yet never retired from teaching, the GNF also said. Her missionary zeal kept her going and she continued to teach as long as her health permitted, it added.
According to the forum, as a mother, and together with her husband, she raised three sons who all grew up to be successful in their lives; one of them returned to Patkai to carry on the legacy and dream of his parents. “Mrs. Margaret Shishak’s life and work for the Naga people will never be forgotten,” the GNF also stated.
The GNR then said that Naga churches in particular will continue to enjoy the fruits of her labour for ages to come. Her legacy will live on. “As we mourn the loss of her life, the Global Naga Forum (GNF) also takes this occasion to celebrate her life and expresses our gratitude to her family. We thank the Almighty God for the gift of her life to the Naga people”.
On behalf of the Nagas around the globe, the GNF expressed its deep condolences and prayers to her family, her relatives, and well-wishers in the USA and the Patkai College community at large. “May she rest in eternal peace and joy,” it added.
