World Anti-Tobacco Day observed at Hojai

HOJAI, May 31: World Anti-Tobacco Day was celebrated at Maryam Ajmal Senior Secondary School of Arts, Bishnupally, Hojai on Tuesday. The ‘guests of the day’ were the cooking and cleaning staff of the school who were welcomed with ‘gamusa’. The programme began with the inaugural address by Dr. Samiran Chandra Roy, Bengali subject teacher. In his speech, Dr. Roy highlighted the dangers of tobacco in contemporary society. Cultural programme was prepared by the cultural group of the school that included a very interesting play on the theme ‘Tobacco Kills’ which was highly applauded by all. A placard making competition was also organised. After distributing the prizes to the winners, principal Sajida Ahmed gave a speech in which she highlighted the problems faced by people who consume tobacco. The pledge taking ceremony was organised for all the faculty, students and non-teaching staff of the school who signed an oath on making the society tobacco free. The motive of enlightening the new generation took the shape of a reality.
The overall programme was coordinated by Latifa Begum, Anamika Dutta, Rabia Begum, Rubina Begum and Semim Sultana. The programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Arifa Muskan.
