Tel Aviv, May 27: At least 35 Palestinians were killed and dozens injured in Rafah, a southern city in Gaza, following Israeli airstrikes on Sunday, according to Palestinian health and civil emergency officials. Rafah has become a refuge for hundreds of displaced Palestinians who fled from northern Gaza following Israel’s counteroffensive against Hamas, which began after the militant group’s assault on October 7 last year.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on X that the strike targeted a compound in Rafah, which housed “significant Hamas terrorists.” The operation, described as being conducted with “precise munitions and on the basis of precise intelligence,” resulted in the deaths of Hamas’s chief of staff for the West Bank and another senior official of the Palestinian Islamist group.
