Flood Scene in Nagaon, Hojai Grim, Fresh Areas Inundated

NAGAON, June 20: The flood scene in Nagaon as well as in Hojai districts remained grim on Monday. The overflowing water from Kopili, Haria, Nishari and the mighty Brahmaputra have submerged over 270 villages under 7 revenue circles in Nagaon district till the time of filing this report.

Besides, during the fresh wave of flood over 4.40 lakh people under those revenue circles have been grievously affected and the houses of many among those flood hit people are still reeling under flood water.

As per a report issued by District Disaster Management Authority, Nagaon on Monday afternoon, over 109 revenue villages under Kampur revenue circle, 87 villages under Raha revenue circle, 44 revenue villages under Nagaon revenue circle have been submerged by the overflowing water from Kopili, Haria and Nishari rivers while 15 revenue villages under Dhing revenue circle, 7 villages under Samaguri revenue circle, 5 villages under Rupahi revenue circle and 2 villages under Kaliabor revenue circle have been submerged by the overflowing water from the mighty Brahmaputra.

As per the report, over 12,912 inmates are presently taking shelter in almost 50 relief camps set up by the district administration. Besides, the overflowing water from Kolong River also submerged a larger area at Nagaon Milanpur Baidatup, Nehrubali, Uttar Haibargaon and Khutikatia areas in the town so far.

Meanwhile the flood water from Kopili river collapsed an electric tower of Silchar – Misa 400KV double power circuit line near Lalmati village in Hojai district a couple of days back.

On the other hand, the state disaster management minister as well as the state revenue minister Jogen Mohan on Monday arrived at Nagaon Kothiatoli Chariali where the minister visited two relief camps and inspected about the facilities as well as other essential requirements being provided by the district administration as well as District Disaster Management Authority, Nagaon.

Besides, the minister also took part in a programme of distribution of essential goods among the inmates initiated by Ram Krishna Mission there. He was accompanied by local Barhampur MLA Jitu Goswami, officials from Nagaon district administration and District Disaster Management Authority, Nagaon, sources added.
