SIVASAGAR, July 2: Minister of Industries & Commerce, Bimal Bora, visited the flood-affected areas in Desangmukh and Saleygaon on Tuesday. While speaking to people who had sought shelter on embankments, Bora assured that the government would provide all necessary relief materials and take rehabilitation measures if the situation worsens.
Bora also pledged to instruct concerned departments to implement adequate post-flood measures for the affected population. District commissioner of Sivasagar, Aditya Vikram Yadav, visited relief camps and reported a slight improvement in the situation by Tuesday afternoon. As a precautionary measure, pregnant women stranded in Saraguri Chapori were safely evacuated to relief camps by the health department.
Akhil Gogoi, MLA of Sivasagar, accompanied by NDRF rescue teams, also visited flood-affected areas on Tuesday to assess the situation.
Meanwhile, Sushanta Borgohain, MLA of Thowra LAC, narrowly escaped a mishap when the small boat he was aboard capsized in West Panidihing on Monday.
Navakanta Das, a resident of Gatanga village, expressed concerns to the media, stating that government agencies had not yet reached out to marooned individuals in villages such as Gatanga, Charaipora, Garbhaga, Koibarta Gaon, Aphala, etc., located between Dikhowmukh and Desangmukh.
