APCU Organises Antarikshya Dutta Memorial Lecture

SIVASAGAR, June 26:
 The fifth Antarikshya Dutta Memorial Lecture, organised by Assam Press Correspondents Union (APCU) Sivasagar district committee and Antarikshya Dutta Memorial Trust in Konwarpur was delivered by Ranjit Khanikar, associate professor, Nitaipukhuri HCDG College, Nitaipukhuri on Saturday.
The day long programme started with the lighting of lamp before the portrait of Antarikshya Dutta and martyr journalist Kamala Saikia, and Prasanna Kumar Dutta by Sivasagar ADC Bitupon Neog; APCU secretary general Sarat Sensuwa and Rituparna Bharali, secretary, APCU, Sivasagar district committee.
Prof Khanikar in his speech said, “Poverty and medium of instruction cannot be a hindrance to educational development.”
Kamaljyoti Gogoi, inspector of schools, Sivasagar and Charaideo districts, inaugurated the symposium. The other dignitaries that attended the meeting were Subhrajyoti Borah, superintendent of police; Jyoti Baruah Dutta, chairperson, Antarikshya Dutta Nyas Rakshya Samiti; Saurav Gogoi, principal, Konwarpur HS school; Bijoy Krishna Dutta, president, Sivasagar Zila Karmachari Parishad; Dhanonjoy Saikia, son of Kamala Saikia and MVI, Jorhat; social worker Jitu Dutta and Dipak Arandhara, headmaster, Nakatani High School.
In the meeting APCU Sivasagar district committee conferred ‘Martyr Journalist Kamala Saikia Award’ to Jogesh Ojah, senior staff reporter of Dainik Agradoot for 2021 and Kongkon Borthakur, staff reporter of Dainik Janambhumi, for the year 2022. On the other hand, ‘Prasanna Kumar Dutta Award’ was conferred to Sanjoy Nag, reporter of V&S Moranhat for 2021 and Ananta Kalita, reporter of Asomiya Khabor, Nazira for 2022.
In the meeting, meritorious students Kasturima Neog and Himadri Bora received Antarikshya Dutta trust awards. The award carries a citation, memento and a cheque of Rs 5000. It is to be mentioned that recipient of ‘Kamala Saikia Award’ journalist Kongkon Borthakur gave away the cash money to the underprivileged students Jerifa Begum and Devasish Baruah. The programme was anchored by Rajib Dutta, executive president, APCU, Sivasagar district committee.
