GUWAHATI, June 27: Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation is organising an iconic week of celebrations under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav from June 27 to July 3, 2022. As part of the celebrations, Field Operations Division (FOD) of National Statistical Office (NSO) under the ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation organised Anvesha 2022, a nationwide quiz contest of college/university student & alumni on June 27, 2022 at the Sudmersen Hall of Cotton University. The quiz contest, which is principally on official statistics, intends to promote awareness about official statistics and enlighten the young minds on various facets of the official statistical system. The quiz contest Guwahati was organised by FOD’s State Capital Regional Office, Guwahati.
The event was inaugurated by Paban Kr. Borthakur, additional chief secretary to the Govt. of Assam. In his inaugural speech, he mentioned the importance of statistics for proper planning and implementation of government function. Barthakur also spoke about the accuracy and timeliness of any statistical analysis for interpolation and extrapolation of the ideas.
In the inaugural session of the quiz contest, Prof Bhabesh Chandra Goswami, vice chancellor of Cotton University delivered the keynote address on data science and its importance and implementation on statistical study. The session was started with the welcome address offered by Swapnalee Bhattacharya, deputy director general of National Statistical Office, Guwahati. In her address she underlined the peculiar situation of low representation from Assam in both the Subordinate Statistical Service as well as in Indian Statistical Service, and hoped that when such events get wide publicity either through the participants or media, it would help enlighten the young minds about the official statistical system, which will furthermore make them aware of the corresponding career avenues.
Anvesha 2022 was successfully hosted by the quizmasters Paran Jyoti Borah and Gitanjali Sarmah where 29 teams of 58 students from different colleges/universities of Assam participated in the contest. All participating students were provided certificates of participation and exciting prizes were awarded to the winning team.
