SHILLONG, July 13 (NNN): A 72 hours deadline has been set by the employees of the GVK Emergency Management and Research Institute (GVK-EMRI) under the umbrella of Meghalaya EMRI Workers’ Union (MEMRIWU) to the state government for the removal of the GVK Company as the management of EMRI.
Speaking to media persons, MEMRIWU president Microlina Syiemlieh said that the employees of GVK EMRI will stop all forms of services post the 72 deadline if the state government fails to remove GVK as the management of emergency services in the state.
“In today’s meeting, we have decided to give 72 hours to the state government to cancel the contract with GVK and if it fails to comply with our demands, we will stop all forms of services across the state,” said Syiemlieh.
Syiemlieh alleged that the present management GVK of the emergency services has failed to provide quality services to the people of the state hence the state government should take over to run the emergency services.
She added that since the inception of GVK EMRI in the state, the employees had suffered a lot and this has affected the people of the state who are dependent on EMRI services for medical and other services.
“From 2018-2019, we have given a deadline to the state government to do something about the current management as it has failed to promise quality services to the people of the state as it was promised but till date the government has not taken any decision that will direct the company to provide quality services,” she added.
In this regard, the president of MEMRIWU appealed to the people of the state to bear with the employees as they are not only fighting for their benefits but they are fighting for the benefits of everyone, especially for those who are dependent on EMRI for medical and other services.
Syiemlieh asserted that if the state government fails to terminate the contract with GVK in the next 72 hours, the people of the state especially those who depend on EMRI services will suffer and the government will be held responsible as it has failed to cooperate with the employees since 2018.
