NAGAON, Dec 13: An engineer from the Public Works Department (PWD) was severely injured in a premeditated attack by father-son duo at Purana Chariali in Nagaon’s Raha on Thursday’s night.
As per the First Information Report (FIR), the engineer, identified as Gobinda Singh was returning home from office when the attack took place.
Singh stopped at a pharmacy to purchase some medicines where 52-year-old — Gopal Das — a resident of the area started arguing with him over a bridge construction on the Kolong river five years ago.
Das claimed that the bridge was built in such a way that it obstructs the natural flow of the river.
Later, the situation escalated as Das and his son named Priyanku Das attacked Singh with a sharp weapons. Seeing this, the locals tried to intervene, however, the duo continued their assault leaving Singh with severe injuries on his head and hands.
The driver of Singh attempted to rescue him but he was too attacked. Later, the police arrived at the scene and rescued Singh and the driver.
Currently, the police have arrested the culprits and registered a case against them.
