Seat of the Mentor installed at Sankar Sangha annual conference site

Conference to be held at Eraltoli Pathar, Mohbandha here from February 6 to 9

JORHAT, Jan 20: The installation ceremony of the seat of the mentor (Guru Axan) was conducted on Sunday at the temporary namghar set up at the venue of the proposed 94th annual conference of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha to be held at Eraltoli Pathar, Mohbandha here from February 6 to 9.

The ceremony was performed by observing the rituals which included recitation of Harinam in the presence of thousands of devotees, office-bearers of the Sangha and reception committee members of the annual conference.

A committee member informed that with the installation of the Guru Axan recitation of Naam prasanga would continue uninterruptedly till the conclusion of the event. He said that thousands of Vaishnavites, bhakats from different districts attended the installation programme on Sunday and paid their reverence.

Stating that 80 per cent of construction works at the venue of the conference named ‘Vaishnav Pandit Sonaram Chutia Samannay Kshetra’, has been completed, the reception committee member stated that people not only from across the State but across the country was expected to attend the four-day congregation.

It is pertinent to mention here that Sonaram Chutia was a Vaishnavite scholar, social reformer and a freedom fighter. The venue is located beside the NH 715 (formerly NH 37) on the western outskirts of Jorhat.

He said that religious discussions on the teachings and preachings of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev that emphasised on fostering harmony and brotherhood amongst all sections of the society, along with cultural events would be organised during the conference days.

The member said that the huge congregation was expected to unite and strengthen the society and reinforce the people to live together in peace and tranquility and enable the State to progress and prosper.

The entire pandal was being constructed on 1200 bighas of land and about 20 lakh devotees are expected to attend the event. Work to set up 200 camps to accommodate devotees, along with putting up 200 cooking ovens with arrangements to provide food to 15000 people at once, pandals for organising different programmes and stalls for exhibition purposes.

More than 10000 volunteers will be engaged and 35 sub-committees have been formed for smooth conduct of the conference, the member informed. The laikhuta (the main pillar) of the entire pandal was installed on November 17, 2024 by ceremonious initiation of the process by the Padadhikar of the Sangha, Bhabendra Nath Deka, in the presence of thousands of Sangha members and reception committee members and functionaries.
