KOKRAJHAR, Feb 23: Intensifying the anti-poaching initiative, a man was apprehended with two elephant tusks in Baksa district on Saturday.
According to source, a team from the forest department, led by Sheshidhar Reddy, deputy field director of the Manas Tiger Project, conducted an operation on Saturday that led to the arrest of a man in possession of two elephant tusks.
The arrested individual was identified as Sadhin Narzary(54), son of late Sadar Narzary from No 2 Bongrun village under Harisinga police station in Udalguri district.
Acting on intelligence inputs, the forest department team apprehended Narzary and seized the tusks, which were allegedly meant for illegal trade.
“The forest department has intensified a strict operation against the poaching of wild animals and conservation of forest and environment across the region. During the operation, a man was apprehended along with elephant tusks. The forest department officials have initiated the operations, and seized the elephant tusks “, said a senior police officer.
