HOWRAGHAT, March 10: Darsing Ronghang, Howraghat MLA constructed an irrigation canal in the paddy fields of of Garakhiya Pukhuri and Dakhin Dighalipar villages at his personal expense.
The initiative was taken up after the villagers made a representation to the MLA for help in irrigation for cultivating paddy.

To solve water crisis in the fields, the MLA started the work of digging new canals and renovating the existing ones.
He also promised to try and include in the Action Plan for water facility for farmers in the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council budget.
Earlier, the villagers of Garakhiya Pokhuri tried to dig an irrigation canal to solve the problem on their own, but a lack of funds put a stop to their effort.
The farmers were delighted to see the unfinished work completed on Sunday.
The MLA gained accolades for his altruistic initiave.
Now, the farmers have requested for paving the canal into a permanent one.
