JORHAT, July 31: On the occasion of 100th birth anniversary of eminent journalist Badan Baruah, the Jorhat district unit of Bartajibi Sangha with the support from family members of Baruah, organised a special programme at Jorhat Press Club on Saturday.
Tajuddin Ahmed, a senior journalist of Jorhat and Upper Assam, who was the key speaker in the programme, spoke about Baruah’s immense contribution to society through his profession.
Ahmed stated that the noted scribe through his writings highlighted the matters concerning the public interest in an unbiased manner by always following the principles and ethics of journalism. Ahmed also cherished his experiences of working with Baruah who always wrote the truth in his reports.
Earlier, Jorhat MLA Hitendra Nath Goswami inaugurated the meeting, which was presided over by Jorhat district unit president of Bartajibi Sangha Anjan Bora while secretary Gyanarun Gogoi delivered the objective of the programme.
Noted writer and head of the Philosophy department of Devicharan Barua Girls’ College, Jorhat, Padmalochan Nath; senior scribe, Debendranath Bora; BJP president and also former MLA, Hemanta Kalita; Jorhat-based regional director of DIPR Tridib Nandan Bora; senior journalist, Lalit Bora and Sanjib Baruah on behalf of Badan Baruah’s family were among those who addressed the gathering.
Badan Baruah was born on July 20,1922 at Horuchoraikhat Duliagaon outskirts here and was the son of Mouzadar Tiluram Baruah. After completing his studies in Cotton College, Badan Baruah obtained a diploma in journalism from an institute in Mumbai and worked for several national newspapers and agencies. Baruah who authored several books, was also a notable cricket and badminton player.
