Manipur Police Capture PLA Cadre in Swift Operation

IMPHAL: In a combined operation, the Manipur Police arrested a rank-and-file member of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA), the armed wing of the banned Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF), in the south’s Kakching district on Friday.

The commandos’ anti-extortion team, on receiving inputs regarding extortion racketeering in the area, conducted the operation.

According to the police sources, intelligence-based operation was conducted at Langmeidong village of Waikhong police station. The search and cordon operation lasted almost for two hours before finally leading to the arrest of the PLA activist.

The arrested individual is identified as Thokchom Diamond Meitei, alias Tamthouba, who is a 26-year-old resident of Langmeidong Mamang Leikai in Kakching district. He was said to have threatened the school authorities and extorted money from Langmeidong area schools for the past several months.

A mobile phone, a wallet containing ₹320, and other personal belongings were taken away from him at the time of arrest. Post-arrest, a case was registered under suitable legal provisions in Waikhong police station. The authorities have initiated a comprehensive investigation to ascertain more about his activities and alleged involvement with other militant activities in the state.

The Manipur Police is also taking stern measures against militant groups and extortion syndicates, ensuring security and stability in the region.
