SIVASAGAR, Aug 1: As many as 36 plays from different parts of the state were staged in the two-day Benu Chiring Memorial All Assam Children’s Play Festival held in Sivasagar Yuva Dal Auditorium on July 29 and 30. The competition was inaugurated by noted cultural activist Prasanta Gogoi. Brojen Phukan, president, Celebration Committee, hoisted the flag. The souvenir ‘Ankur’, edited by Prasanta Borgohain, was released by senior journalist Anamuddin Ahmed. The competition began with the staging of Rupom Bezbaruah’s ‘Abelir Rong’. Among others, the inaugural function was attended by Dr Govin Handique, Manoj Kumar Borthakur, Gitashree Bora, Assad Ullah, Dilip Changmai, Brazen Phukan, and a host of other leading citizens. Jitujyoti Gayan and Akash Duwori introduced the guests and did the anchoring.
The second day’s programme was inaugurated by singing sensation Harshit Nath. Satadal Baishya of Nalbari was honoured with the Tarini Chetia Memorial Asom Natyajyoti title for the year 2022. Jinku Baruah of Biswanath Chariali was honoured with Asom Natya Arunodoi Bota 2022 while noted singer Manos Robin was honoured with Souorvpran Sivasagar title in the meeting. Dikhowmukh Milita Silpi Samaj and Murchana of Biswanath Chariali judged the ‘Joint Best Teams’ of the festival. Akash of Bongaigaon was selected as the ‘Best Disciplined Team’ while six other teams were given inspirational awards in the Nat Samaroh. Bhargov Deka and Sneha Bhuyan were adjudged the ‘Best Actors’ while Monoranjan Saikia and Meghali Saikia were awarded as the ‘Best Directors’. Bipul Bora took away the ‘Best Music Director’ award. The play Breaking News was awarded for the best script and Mantu Kumar Das was honoured as the ‘Best Art Director’.
