Excavator and dumper drivers hold meeting

SIVASAGAR, Aug 5: Over a hundred excavator and dumper drivers from 17 districts held a meeting in Sepon Playground recently to discuss their grievances and other problems related to their profession. Speaking as a guest speaker, Purnakanta Buragohain, general secretary, INTUC Assam, said that to solve their problems the drivers need to unite under a union and to have more awareness about the protective laws and provisions. Prabin Baruah and Rajani Saikia of INTUC also addressed the gathering. A 15-member All Assam Excavator and Dumper Driver and Handymen Union was formed in the meeting. Presided over by Hemen Baruah, the meeting decided to register the union under Trade Union Act 1926.
