GUWAHATI, June 19: In a focused effort to ensure operational safety and infrastructure reliability, Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), undertook a two-day intensive inspection of key railway installations and operational facilities in Tripura under the Lumding Division, beginning on June 18.
The visit was accompanied by other senior railway officials, according to an official statement.
The inspection commenced at Dharmanagar railway station, followed by a window trailing inspection from Dharmanagar to Agartala station.
This method—observing track and infrastructure conditions from a moving train—is critical for detecting irregularities in track geometry, ballast conditions, and other safety-sensitive components.
The technique is particularly vital for regions like Tripura, where heavy rainfall and unstable terrain can impact track stability.
On June 19, the General Manager visited the Agartala Coaching Depot, which is responsible for the maintenance and readiness of passenger coaches in the region.
A comprehensive review was conducted to assess maintenance protocols, safety compliance, and the depot’s capacity to manage rising traffic demands.
On the occasion, Shrivastava inaugurated a newly established Electronic Laboratory at the coaching depot, aimed at enhancing technical support for train operations.
He also inspected the staff running room at Agartala, a key facility that provides rest and accommodation for train operating crew.
The inspection focused on hygiene, living conditions, and overall amenities—factors that directly influence crew alertness and operational safety.
During the visit, the General Manager interacted with railway staff and supervisors, reviewed ongoing safety measures, and underscored the importance of maintaining stringent safety and service standards.
He directed officials to remain particularly vigilant and proactive during the monsoon season to mitigate potential risks.
The inspection underlines NFR’s ongoing commitment to enhancing safety, passenger comfort, and punctuality, while strengthening infrastructure and operational efficiency across the strategically significant region of Tripura.
