GUWAHATI, July 17: Guwahati city has received national recognition under the Swachh Survekshan 2024 with the Promising Swachh Shehar Award in the 3 to 10 lakh population category, according to an official statement issued by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC).
The announcement was made by Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania during a press briefing following the award ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on Wednesday.
Guwahati secured the 44th national rank in its category.
In addition to the award, the city has also earned the ODF+ (Open Defecation Free Plus) certification and the Garbage Free City (GFC) One Star rating under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban).
“These honours are a reflection of the collective commitment, hard work, and community participation of the people of Guwahati,” the Mayor said.
He extended his gratitude to citizens for their active involvement and constructive feedback throughout the process.
Sarania also acknowledged the support of the Government of India and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for recognising the progress made by Assam and Guwahati in the area of urban sanitation and cleanliness.
“This is not just an award—it is a motivation to continue our mission to build a cleaner, greener, and more inclusive Guwahati,” the Mayor added.
