GUWAHATI, JULY 22: Congress Lok Sabha Deputy Leader Gaurav Gogoi, on Tuesday, called the abrupt resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar “shocking” and asked the Union government to indicate whether it had prior information on the move. Gogoi also asked the government about its intentions regarding a smooth transition in the vice president’s office.
Taking to social media site X, Gogoi posted, “The Hon’ble Vice President’s resignation is sudden and unexpected. I wish good health to respected ji.” He also raised questions about the readiness of the government, saying, “It is for the Union government to inform whether they had advance information and have organized a smooth transition.”. Yesterday’s missing senior ministers at a meeting presided over by the Hon’ble Vice President now holds greater importance.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar quit office on Monday night, citing health as the main reason. In a formal letter to President Droupadi Murmu, Dhankhar made use of Article 67(a) of the Constitution to resign with immediate effect.
To give priority to health care and follow medical guidance, I am resigning from the office of Vice President of India with immediate effect,” Dhankhar said in his letter of resignation.
Dhankhar, in his letter, showed deep appreciation to President Murmu for her unwavering support, calling their working relationship “soothing” and positive. He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Cabinet, praising their cooperation and the experience gained while in office.
I am grateful to the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the noble Council of Ministers. The Prime Minister’s support and cooperation have been extremely useful, and I have had the opportunity to learn a lot during my tenure,” he observed.
