TEZPUR, July 22: A twenty-day summer drama workshop for children and adolescents, organised for the first time by Tezpur Kalibari Surjyodaya Sangha in association with residents of Kalibari Da Gaon, concluded with a vibrant cultural evening titled ‘Natakar Esondhya’ at Kalibari Bor Namghar.
The concluding programme featured the staging of ‘Nadir Axukh’ (The River’s Illness), a play focusing on rural life and the urgent issue of river pollution and conservation.
Written and directed by noted dramatist Manas Pratim Bora, with Moon Deka as associate director, the production was performed by over thirty children trained during the workshop.
The play delivered a compelling message on the importance of protecting rivers, which serve as lifelines for human civilisation.
In addition to the play, the evening included performances of dance, music, and poetry recitations by the participants, which were well received by the audience.
Tezpur MLA and acclaimed actor Prithiraj Rabha, who attended the event as a guest, lauded the children’s performances, praising their dedication and talent despite the brief training period.
He described the programme as “a promising start for a new theatrical journey in Tezpur.”
Other distinguished attendees included social worker Rishiraj Kaundinya, veteran actor Mrigen Chandra Bora, writer Santanu Baruah, children’s playwrights Dwijen Nath and Hemadhar Das, and dramatists Ashwini Bora and Gautam Pathak.
All participants were awarded certificates of merit and saplings as tokens of appreciation and encouragement.
In his concluding remarks, Surjyodaya Sangha Secretary Manas Pratim Bora thanked the guests and supporters of the initiative and emphasised the importance of nurturing regular theatrical activities in the Kalibari area.
