Marking the 26th anniversary of India’s victory in the 1999 war, the Governor paid solemn tribute to the fallen soldiers, reflecting the state’s collective gratitude for their supreme sacrifices.

The event was organised to honour the valour and indomitable spirit of the Indian Armed Forces, as shared in an official statement.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Acharya remembered the courage of Indian soldiers during Operation Vijay, noting their unwavering resolve despite fighting under extreme weather conditions, hazardous terrain, and intense enemy fire.

He described the campaign as a landmark in India’s military history that demonstrated not only tactical brilliance but also unmatched bravery and dedication.

The Governor lauded the contribution of martyrs such as Captain Vikram Batra and Assam’s own Captain Jintu Gogoi, stating that their stories are not just narratives of war but enduring legacies of patriotism, commitment, and national service.

He also drew parallels between the heroics of Kargil and the recent Operation Sindoor under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting that India’s armed forces continue to embody readiness and resilience in the face of every challenge.

He said the courage and dedication of the soldiers are not just part of India’s history but remain alive in their ongoing service to the nation.

Emphasising that the true strength of a democratic India lies in its defenders, the Governor reminded citizens that the sacrifices made by the armed forces uphold the sovereignty and dignity of the nation.

He stated that Kargil Vijay Diwas should be observed not merely as a memorial to a past conflict, but as a commitment to the ideals of courage, unity, and selfless national service.

Urging the public to translate remembrance into action, he called upon every citizen to honour the legacy of Kargil by contributing to nation-building in their everyday lives.

Expressing his heartfelt gratitude to the families of the soldiers, he said that the silent strength and sacrifices of these families elevate the stature of the country on the global stage.

The Governor added that their support is foundational to the courage displayed by India’s armed forces.

The commemorative event was attended by senior defence officials including Lt General RP Kalita, Lt General PK Bharali, Commodore KC Choudhury, Group Captain Debananda Gohain of the Indian Air Force, and Brigadier Palash Choudhury, Director of Sainik Welfare.

The gathering also included serving and retired soldiers, veer maatas, veer naaris, and family members of the martyrs, who came together to pay their respects and honour the memory of those who laid down their lives for the country.
