GUWAHATI, Aug 25: Satish Kumar, Chairman of the Railway Board and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), inspected the newly constructed 51.38 km-long Bairabi–Sairang New Line Railway Project on August 24, 2025.
The project will connect Mizoram’s capital Aizawl with the national railway network for the first time.
According to an official statement, Kumar was accompanied by Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of NF Railway, Arun Kumar Chaudhary, General Manager (Construction), along with other senior railway and construction officials during the inspection.
During his visit, the Railway Board Chairman reviewed key infrastructure, including bridges, tunnels and stations along the route.
He noted that the project marks a significant milestone in strengthening rail connectivity in the Northeast.
Despite the difficult terrain, the Northeast Frontier Railway has successfully overcome major geographical and engineering challenges to bring the project closer to completion.
The Bairabi–Sairang link is expected to provide Mizoram with a direct railway connection to the rest of the country, boosting development and accessibility in the region.
