NAHARLAGUN, Sept 5: In a landmark step towards advancing interdisciplinary learning and research, the Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (TRIHMS), Naharlagun, and the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science & Technology (NERIST), Nirjuli, have formally entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate in academics, innovation, research, training, and exchange programmes for students and faculty.
According to an official statement, the MoU was signed at TRIHMS by Dr Moji Jini, Director of TRIHMS, and Dr M K Camder, Registrar of NERIST, in the presence of Prof Narendranath S, Director of NERIST, as well as Deans and senior faculty members from both institutes.
The signing of the agreement marked the beginning of what both institutions described as a “new chapter” of partnership between the State’s premier medical and technology institutions.
The collaboration is designed to harness the complementary strengths of the two institutions—TRIHMS as the State’s first medical college and a hub for healthcare learning, and NERIST as a nationally recognised centre of excellence in science and technology.
Together, the institutes aim to address pressing challenges in healthcare delivery, promote innovation in medical technology, and create platforms for students and researchers to contribute to socially impactful projects.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Jini said that the partnership would serve as “a significant beginning for the first medical college and technology institute of the State to deliver solutions that are impactful and directly benefit patients and society.”
He emphasised that interdisciplinary cooperation was the need of the hour, given the rapidly evolving healthcare environment, and underlined TRIHMS’s commitment to fostering a culture of research-driven healthcare delivery.
Prof Narendranath, while highlighting the need for active engagement, said that “the MoU should not be just on paper.”
Stressing the importance of action-oriented collaboration, he called upon both institutes to “come together and accelerate research and innovation that can shape the future of healthcare delivery in Arunachal Pradesh in particular and Northeast India in general.”
His remarks underscored the critical role of academic institutions in contributing to regional development and building a knowledge economy.
The official statement added that the partnership would open avenues for joint research projects, student internships, training modules, and faculty development initiatives, creating opportunities for both institutes to exchange expertise across disciplines.
By integrating medical sciences with engineering and technology, the collaboration is expected to enable solutions in areas such as biomedical devices, healthcare technology, telemedicine, and innovations tailored to the unique needs of the region.
The MoU also aligns with national priorities in promoting skill development, multidisciplinary learning, and research-driven education, as envisioned in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Both TRIHMS and NERIST affirmed that the collaboration would not only benefit their respective academic communities but also contribute to strengthening the overall healthcare and education ecosystem of Arunachal Pradesh.
Senior faculty members present at the signing expressed optimism that the collaboration would foster innovation-driven teaching and provide students with exposure to real-world challenges, thereby preparing them for future roles in both healthcare and technology-driven industries.
The partnership between TRIHMS and NERIST, as the statement highlighted, is an important milestone in the State’s academic journey and reflects the broader vision of integrating knowledge, technology, and innovation for the greater good of society.
