NAMSAI, Sept 18: The Namsai District Hospital has initiated an inquiry into an incident of alleged misconduct by a nurse towards a patient’s family members, after reports surfaced of unprofessional behaviour inside the hospital ward.
According to accounts, the incident occurred when the husband and sister of a patient visited her in the ward.
The nurse on duty allegedly scolded and shouted at them repeatedly, causing a disturbance.
While hospital protocols mandate limiting visitors to ensure patient care, witnesses said the manner of handling the situation was harsh and unnecessary.
Matters escalated further when the patient’s husband, who had reportedly remained calm and compliant, was rudely asked to leave after he returned briefly to ask his wife an important question.
The hospital administration has acknowledged the seriousness of the matter.
In a statement, officials said that while the public has extended strong support to healthcare professionals in the wake of the recent incident at Itanagar, misconduct by staff cannot be condoned under any circumstances.
“Every individual, regardless of their role, deserves to be treated with respect and dignity,” the statement read.
Hospital authorities confirmed that an internal investigation is underway and assured that appropriate action will be taken against the staff member concerned if the allegations are proven.
The administration further stated that measures are being introduced to prevent such incidents in the future, including staff retraining on professional conduct and patient-family communication protocols.
Officials reiterated the hospital’s commitment to maintaining a respectful, compassionate, and patient-friendly environment, stressing that healthcare delivery must go hand-in-hand with dignity and empathy for patients and their families.
