AGARTALA, Sept 21: Tripura is brimming with anticipation as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit the state on September 22 to inaugurate the redeveloped Mata Tripura Sundari Temple Complex at Udaipur in Gomati district.

The project has been completed under the PRASAD scheme (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive), giving one of India’s most sacred Shakti Peethas a modern yet culturally rooted makeover.

The Prime Minister’s visit holds special significance — this will be his 11th trip to Tripura since 2014. His first visit was in December that year, when he inaugurated the second unit of the Palatana Power Plant. He has since returned on multiple occasions, including two visits in February 2018 for election rallies.

Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury revealed that the redevelopment project cost Rs 52 crore, with Rs 17 crore contributed by the state government and the remainder funded by the Centre.

temple complex has been redesigned with a distinctive architectural vision — from above, it resembles a tortoise, symbolizing stability and divinity. Spread across three floors, the complex now features modern pathways and renovated entrances, strengthened fencing and upgraded drainage, three-storied facility housing stalls, a meditation hall, guest accommodations, and office spaces.

Officials expressed confidence that the new-look temple will boost tourism, create jobs, and spur local businesses, strengthening the socio-economic fabric of the region.

With the Prime Minister’s arrival, security has been tightened across Agartala and Udaipur. Teams from Tripura Police, Tripura State Rifles, and CAPF have been deployed, supported by additional forces to ensure smooth operations.

According to officials, PM Modi will land at MBB Airport, Agartala, fly by chopper to Palatana Helipad, and then proceed by road to the temple complex. The shrine has been decked up with flowers, fresh paint, and festive decorations to welcome the occasion.

To ensure smooth movement, the District Magistrate of West Tripura has issued restrictions on heavy vehicles along the route from Agartala MBB Airport to Sekerkot between 10 am and 7 pm on September 22. Similar restrictions have also been applied in the Udaipur area, with emergency vehicles advised to use alternate routes.

”Mata Tripurasundari Temple is not only a revered Shakti Peetha but also a jewel of Northeast India’s spiritual tourism,” said Tourism Minister Chowdhury. “We are hopeful that the Prime Minister’s visit and the redevelopment project will draw devotees and tourists from far and wide.” With the grand inauguration just hours away, Tripura readies itself to showcase its spiritual heritage on a national stage, as the centuries-old shrine steps into a new era of significance and splendor.
