JORHAT, Sept. 28: Union Minister of State (MoS) for Textiles and External Affairs Pabitra Margherita today dismissed allegations made by AJP leader Lurinjyoti Gogoi that Zubeen Garg’s body was brought from Singapore to India using funds collected by Assamese NRIs in Singapore.
Addressing the media at the Jorhat Circuit House on Sunday evening, Margherita said that chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had taken immediate steps to repatriate the singer’s body after learning of his demise in Singapore.

He added that he and the chief minister had personally coordinated with Indian High Commissioner in Singapore, Shilpak Ambule, to ensure the body was sent back promptly, maintaining full dignity and honours.
The Union Minister noted that Assam chief secretary Ravi Kota had written to the Indian High Commission on September 20, assuring that the state government would cover all expenses related to the repatriation.
The letter also emphasized that no contributions or sponsorships from any other entity would be required.
Brushing aside Gogoi’s claims, Margherita said, “The whole state is mourning the loss of the legend, and only a small section is trying to play politics over his death.”
He urged people not to politicize the issue, pointing out that the state government has already constituted an SIT to investigate the cause of death.
The minister further reminded that Lurinjyoti Gogoi and his party had previously made derogatory remarks about Zubeen Garg, prompting the singer’s sharp response.
Margherita warned Gogoi against making false allegations for political gain.
Meanwhile, a 48-member committee, formed on Saturday under Assam minister Bimal Borah to organise the 13th-day mangalik programme of Zubeen Garg at Jorhat Stadium on October 1, met on Sunday to finalise arrangements.
