AGARTALA, Oct 9: The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) leaders today have filed an FIR with the Additional Superintendent of Police at New Capital Complex Police Station in Agartala, demanding action against those involved in the recent attack on a TMC office located at Chaittaranjan Road at Agartala.
The AITC delegation also met UK Chakma, Secretary to Tripura Governor Indra Sen Reddy Nallu, and demanded strict action against the persons who allegedly attacked the party office, measures regarding the attack on Abhishek Banerjee during his last visit, and assurance of security for Tripura-based Trinamool Congress leaders.
The leadership warned that if the police fail to take action, they will approach the court.
The incident comes amid heightened political tensions in the state following attacks on BJP MPs and MLAs in North Bengal, which were subsequently followed by an alleged attack on the TMC office in Agartala.
A six-member TMC delegation visited the state yesterday and addressed the media multiple times, raising concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation and holding the BJP responsible for the incidents.
Speaking after filing the FIR, TMC Spokesperson & West Bengal TMC General Secretary Kunal Ghosh stated that the party had no involvement in the North Bengal incident and did not condone the attack.
He emphasised that chief minister Mamata Banerjee personally visited the injured but noted that no arrests have been made yet in connection with the attack on the TMC office in Agartala.
“The police could have registered cases suo motu, but no initiative has been taken. Despite the entire incident happening in front of the police, no one has been arrested so far,” Ghosh said.
During a police meeting, TMC Spokesperson Sudip Raha pointed out that while four individuals were arrested in connection with the North Bengal attack, no arrests have been made in the recent TMC office attack in Tripura.
MP Sushmita Dev added that at a press conference in Tripura, the BJP spokesperson had openly admitted to vandalizing TMC posters and banners at the Agartala party office. However, despite this, no arrests have been made.
The TMC leadership questioned whether individuals backed by the ruling party were being shielded from arrest. The leaders have demanded immediate police action and warned that they will seek legal recourse if those responsible are not held accountable.
