Guwahati, 17 Oct : Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprabha Mahanta were transferred from CID custody to judicial custody on 17 October, in connection with the investigation into singer Zubeen Garg’s death. The duo appeared before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) and underwent routine medical examinations under tight security at both the CID office and court premises. Their final jail assignment has not yet been confirmed. However, according to reports, they are lodged in Haflong jail.
The investigation has so far resulted in seven arrests. Five of the detainees, including Shyamkanu Mahanta, Siddharth Sharma, Zubeen Garg’s cousin Sandipan Garg, and two personal security personnel, remain lodged in Baksa Jail. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) continues to question them as part of the ongoing probe.

During interrogation, Goswami alleged that Zubeen Garg may have been poisoned by Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma. The SIT is currently examining this claim alongside other lines of inquiry in the investigation.
