NAGAON, Oct 17: Nagaon police on Friday arrested Injamul Haque of Telia-Bebejia village under Juria Police Station for allegedly spreading false information about the death of iconic Assamese singer Zubeen Garg through a Facebook post.
Addressing a press conference, Nagaon SSP Swapnanil Deka informed local media that a case (No 257/2025 U/S 352/353-1-B/192 BNS R/W Section 66D IT Act) has been registered in connection with the incident.
SSP Deka stated that the accused had attempted to disrupt public peace by sharing a self-prepared “investigation report” on social media, while an official CID inquiry into Zubeen Garg’s death is still underway. The content, shared via a Facebook account named “S K Ahmed” included objectionable posts allegedly intended to provoke public unrest in the name of seeking justice.
Deka acknowledged the collective grief over Zubeen Garg’s untimely demise within the police community but emphasised that calls for justice must be pursued in a lawful and peaceful manner.
The accused was later produced before the court.
