GUWAHATI, Nov 11: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has strongly condemned the car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort metro station that killed at least 12 people and injured several others. Speaking during a programme at Raha in Nagaon district, Sarma urged people to stand united against any attempt to revive terrorism in the country.
Calling the blast “highly condemnable,” Sarma said the Delhi explosion points to a larger terror design. “In the last two days, a huge quantity of explosives was seized from specific individuals. Definitely, a big design was there. Hopefully, we will get a clearer picture by evening,” he told reporters.
The Chief Minister said that Assam police have been instructed to keep a strict watch on social media platforms and take action against anyone glorifying or celebrating acts of terror online. “Some people are posting happy emojis or welcoming the news of the blast. This is not acceptable. If someone is happy in another’s death, they are directly or indirectly supporting terrorism,” he warned.
Sarma directed the Director General of Police to identify such individuals and take legal action if they are from Assam. He reiterated that the state would not tolerate any attempt, online or offline to promote extremist ideas or justify violence.
The powerful blast in Delhi has reignited concerns about the country’s internal security and the rise of sleeper terror cells. Sarma called for collective vigilance and public unity, stressing, “The people have to come together so that terrorism cannot rear its head again.”
