MORIGAON, Nov 12: Internal disputes have led to a split within the Morigaon District Kabadi Association, raising concerns that the conflict may hinder the growth of emerging kabadi talents in the district.
Addressing a press meet at the Morigaon Press Club on Wednesday, association president Ramen Nath and secretary Ramesh Kakati alleged that a dissident group has illegally formed a parallel committee in violation of the organisation’s constitution.
They stated that the move was an attempt to challenge the authority of the existing district committee.
“The newly formed group is unrecognised and unconstitutional. We appeal to the All Assam Kabadi Association (AAKA) to initiate an investigation and take administrative action against those involved,” the duo said.
In a letter sent to the state committee, the district body alleged that the dissident group held an unauthorised meeting three days ago at Morigaon HS & MP School, electing Azgar Ali as president, Ibadul Ali as acting president, and Siraj Uddin Ahmed as general secretary.
The legitimate district committee, Nath and Kakati clarified, was constituted through a full-fledged annual conference held on August 31, attended by 116 delegates from various kabadi clubs and observed by Swaban Bhatia, a central representative. In that conference, Ramen Nath was unanimously elected as president and authorised to form the new committee, which later submitted all required documents to AAKA president Bhubaneswar Kalita for approval.
While the approval is pending, the AAKA, through a directive issued on October 8, instructed the old committee to continue functioning until official ratification.
Following this, the district body sent teams to participate in the Sub-Junior Inter-District Kabadi Tournaments—the girls’ event in Bilasipara (Oct 25–26) and the boys’ event in Nalbari (Nov 1–2)—where both teams finished as second-best performers.
Nath and Kakati alleged that the newly formed parallel committee is disrupting the sporting environment and demotivating young kabadi players.
The press meet was also attended by association advisors Krishnanda Nath and Mahes Hazarika.
