KOKRAJHAR, Nov 14: The cultural diversity of North East India will be in focus at the Exhibition of Indigenous Art & Crafts, Handloom Traditions and Food Culture, scheduled from November 15 to 22 at the Jwhwlao Nileswar Brahma Auditorium of Bodoland University.
The exhibition highlights the region’s heritage through traditional artistry, craftsmanship and cuisine.

Organised under the Project Empowering Marginalised Women of the Sixth Scheduled Areas of Assam (EMWSSAA) and funded by the North Eastern Council under the Ministry of DoNER, the event is being held in collaboration with TRIFED. The exhibition forms part of the 150th Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh celebrations commemorating the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
The inaugural session will be attended by the Chief of Bodoland Territorial Council, Hagrama Mohilary; BL Ahuja, vice-chancellor, Bodoland University; PS Aleng, general manager, TRIFED-NER; and Dawa Penjor, general secretary of the Bhutan–India Friendship Association, Gelephu Chapter.
Colonel David L. Khojol, Commanding Officer of the 135 Infantry Battalion (TA), Ecological, Assam, will join as guest of honour.
The programme includes a traditional Dahal Thungri welcome dance, a book release, cultural presentations and the formal opening of the exhibition by the chief guest.
A special inaugural evening will feature a ramp walk by Aronai Entertainment showcasing traditional North Eastern weaves, a musical dialogue on Zubeen Garg by performers P Gogoi, Anshuman Baruah and Pragyashree Phukan, and a live performance by The Family Tree Band.
The week-long exhibition will also host a Tribal Artisan Empanelment Mela by TRIFED on November 17 and a session on oral and written histories covering indigenous arts, weaving, ecological crafts, food traditions and languages under EMWSSAA on November 19.
Visitors will be able to experience an array of authentic handlooms, eco-friendly crafts and traditional cuisines from across the North East, offering an immersive glimpse into the region’s cultural and artistic richness.
