Two senior journalists pass away in separate incidents

HOWRAGHAT/KHERONI, Nov 23: Two respected journalists from Karbi Anglong passed away in separate incidents, leaving the region’s media fraternity and cultural communities in deep grief.

Mohan Ingti, 50, a senior journalist from Prilo village in Kheroni, West Karbi Anglong, died this morning due to cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment at HAM Hospital, Hojai. Ingti, who had long been diabetic and suffering from other ailments, had been admitted a few days earlier. He is survived by his wife and young daughter. Ingti also served as vice-president of the Kheroni Press Club.

In another incident, prominent journalist and cultural organiser Dipu Charan Dutta, 66, passed away at a private hospital in Guwahati on the morning of Saturday. Dutta, who had been battling a serious illness, was a former secretary of the Karbi Anglong District Sahitya Sabha and the Diphu correspondent of Ajir Assam newspaper.

Dutta made significant contributions to Assamese literature, including editing the magazine ‘Plavan’ published from Diphu in 1972. His death has cast a pall of sorrow over Diphu, with many remembering him as a selfless idealist and dedicated cultural worker.
