Tezpur, Nov 25: The 42nd edition of the Sonitpur District Bodybuilding and Arm-Wrestling Championship concluded on Nov 25 at Jamugurihat, drawing enthusiastic participation from athletes across the district. The event was organised by the Jamuguri Bodybuilding and Adventure Association under the Tezpur Asomiya Club Sports Division.
The programme opened with the flag hoisting by Sonitpur District Bodybuilding Association president Pankaj Kumar Bora, Sonitpur District Arm-Wrestling Association president Mrinmoy Kalita and organising committee president Dr Bipul Kumar Borah. The ceremony also honoured Chaaya Baruah, Assam’s first female world bodybuilding champion, who recently won gold at the Women’s World Bodybuilding Championship. MLA Padma Hazarika felicitated her with a financial grant of one lakh rupees.
In the competition, Rishikesh Nath of Jamuguri Bodybuilding Association claimed the Champion of Champions title in the men’s arm-wrestling category, while Manjita Kotoki of Physique Gym won the women’s Champion of Champions title. Nav Dekai of Gold Gym secured the Mr Sonitpur 2025 title. Smriti Sharma of Herculean Gym and Changina Boruah of Overever Fitness Gym were declared Miss Sonitpur (Bodybuilding) and Miss Sonitpur (Model Physique) respectively. The Masters Mr Sonitpur title went to Selim Ahmed of Greenmax Gym, and Chandan Gogoi of Fitness Century bagged the Mr Sonitpur (Men’s Physique) title.
The judging panel included Pankaj Kumar Bora as chief judge along with Bibudh Deka, Ratul Kumar Das, Nupur Ranjan Saikia, Tridip Bora, Dudu Tamuli, Chaaya Baruah, Nayanjyoti Kotoki, Hiteswar Kakati, Sarat Saikia, Dibyajyoti Das and Samiran Bora. Stage duties were managed by Dibas Moni Baruah, Nayan Kumar Bharali and Jayanta Bora.
Following the event, a district team was formed to participate in the 53rd State Bodybuilding Championship scheduled to be held in Guwahati on Dec 5 and 6.
