DONGKAMUKAM, Nov 29: Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang, today said that the long-standing demand for an Autonomous State through the implementation of Article 244(A) “is possible,” while addressing a blanket distribution ceremony at Dongkamukam in West Karbi Anglong.
Speaking as the chief guest at the programme, where blankets donated by Singdon Ronghang in memory of Basapi Teronpi were distributed, the CEM recalled the decades-long struggle for statehood during which dozens of people lost their lives, hundreds of families were displaced, many individuals were left physically handicapped and the community itself faced internal boycotts. He said that the demand for an Autonomous State could be realised within the next decade and added that he considers himself fortunate to be the longest-serving CEM of KAAC. He further announced that more development schemes will be taken up from January next year.
Ronghang appealed to the Garo Christian voters of the constituency to support the BJP in the upcoming Assembly election.
The programme was attended by Veterinary Board Chairman Ditolal Hasnu; PWD Board Chairman Longsing Tokbi; VDC Chairman Ramson Rongpi; Menmiji Lamps Chairman Bidhyaing Teron; Rongkhang Lamps Chairman Mongol Bey; and former KAAC Executive Members Bajong Tisso and Rensing Bey.
