Tezpur , Nov 05: A Tezpur court on Dec 4 delivered a firm verdict in a disturbing murder case, sentencing 25-year-old Madhab Brahma to life imprisonment for brutally killing his mother in 2022. The judgment was pronounced by Additional District and Sessions Judge Abdul Mazid Mohammad Mohiuddin, who also heads the Fast-Track Court.
According to the prosecution, Brahma killed his mother at their Misamari home in September 2022, attacking her repeatedly with an axe while she was working in the morning. Police later arrested him and sent him to judicial custody, where he has been lodged for the past three years. Investigators said he had tried to hide the crime, but officers recovered crucial evidence and pieced together the sequence of events before presenting the case in court.

Government prosecutor N.K. Mishra stated that although the crime was extremely brutal, the court considered the convict’s young age and awarded life imprisonment instead of the death penalty. He added that Brahma never admitted the crime in court and did not explain why he killed his mother in such a horrific manner.
The case was registered under Misamari Police Station Case No. 27/22 and Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, now aligned with Section 101 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. It was tried as Sessions Case No. 158/22.
