Guwahati, 08 Nov: Assam families are waiting for the bodies of three men who died in the fire that tore through “Birch by Romeo Lane” in North Goa on Sunday. The victims — Rahul Tanti and Manojit Mal of Cachar and Diganta Patir of Dhemaji — were among the 25 people killed when an LPG cylinder exploded inside the Arpora nightclub.
Officials said the fire spread through the building in minutes because the interior used material that caught fire at once. Most victims died from smoke. Three suffered burns. Fourteen staff members are among the dead, along with four tourists and seven persons yet to be identified. Several workers were trapped in the basement, and rescue teams recovered their bodies after clearing the debris.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma issued a message expressing sorrow and support as families prepared to travel to Goa for formal identification.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant visited the site and ordered an inquiry into the blast, safety norms and building approvals. The report will guide action once investigators complete their inspection.
