BISWANATH CHARIALI, Dec 13: Sensation prevailed in and around the Sootea area when news spread that a combine harvester caught fire in the middle of a paddy field at Metera Gaon, causing panic among nearby paddy reapers.
According to local reports, the combine harvester, a paddy harvesting machine deployed at Metera Gaon and manufactured by the Chinese GAM company, suddenly caught fire. The blaze quickly engulfed the entire machine and spread to the surrounding paddy field.
Farmers attempted to control the fire, managing to prevent it from spreading further, but were unable to extinguish the machine itself. The local residents informed the fire brigade; however, the fire service could not reach the site due to lack of easy access.
One of the machine’s owners stated that the fire broke out due to technical issues. Fortunately, no person was injured in the incident. It is noteworthy that a youth from Sootea had hired the harvester on rent to carry out paddy harvesting across the area.
