MORIGAON / NAGAON, Dec 15: The journalism fraternity across Assam has been plunged into deep mourning following the demise of Padmashree awardee and veteran journalist Prafulla Gobinda Baruah, Chairman Emeritus and former Managing Director of The Assam Tribune group of publications.
Baruah, the son of legendary media personality Radha Govind Baruah, passed away while undergoing treatment, leaving behind an irreplaceable void in the field of journalism and public life.
Expressing grief over his passing, Chairman of the Morigaon Anchalik Sangbadik Sanstha (MASS), Bubumoni Goswami, described Baruah as a guiding force and pathfinder of journalism in Assam, stating that his death marks an irreparable loss to society.
The Morigaon District Journalists’ Association also expressed profound condolences, remembering him as a towering figure whose contribution to journalism set high professional and ethical standards.
The All Assam Journalists’ Union (AAJU) likewise expressed deep sorrow over the demise of the Padmashree awardee, acknowledging his lifelong dedication to journalism and public service. In a condolence message, AAJU president Pankaj Kumar Nath and general secretary Nakul Talukdar described Baruah as a socially committed writer and editor who played a pivotal role in shaping modern journalism in Assam.
They said his efforts towards the promotion of the Assamese language and literature would be remembered for generations.
The AAJU leadership recalled Baruah’s remarkable achievements and his enduring contribution to the cultural, literary and national life of Assam.
They extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.
The news of Baruah’s demise has sent shockwaves across the media fraternity, with journalists, writers and intellectuals remembering him as a visionary who helped shape the media landscape of Assam. His legacy, colleagues said, will continue to inspire future generations of journalists and writers in the years to come.
