HOWRAGHAT, Jan 10: With a vision to establish Bodo literature, art and culture on the global stage, the 65th Annual Session of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) commenced with a vibrant three-day programme at Thengfakhri Phwthar, Baralaugaon. The session, being held from January 9 to 11, has witnessed a massive gathering of over 2,000 delegates from various districts of Assam, besides participants from neighbouring states and countries such as West Bengal, Meghalaya and Nepal.
Recognised as the second-largest literary and cultural organisation in Assam after the Asam Sahitya Sabha, this year’s Bodo Sahitya Sabha session has earned widespread appreciation for its exceptional organisational standards and visionary planning.
One of the most striking features of the session is the thoughtful selection of the venue. Departing from the usual open-field locations that often become muddy or uneven, the organisers chose elevated ground for the main pavilion (Mandap), delegate halls and camps. This ensured a clean, orderly and hassle-free environment for all participants.
To counter the biting January cold, the organising committee introduced innovative housing arrangements for delegates. Hospitality at the 65th BSS session has set a new benchmark.
The Bodo Sahitya Sabha has also excelled in logistics, discipline and hygiene
As part of the program on the second day, Bodo Sahitya Sabha president, Dr Surath Narzary hoisted sabha flag followed by floral tributes to martyrs amidst presence of large number of gathering. Vice presidents of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha Sitaram Basumatary and Prasanta Boro paid floral tributes to the martyrs on the occasion.
A book release ceremony was also held. As many as 90 books were released in the event written and published by different publications, individuals.
A felicitation program honoured award-winning personalities, successful students and Bodo literary figures, including Sahitya Akademi and Padma Shri awardees. Awards like Rangchar and Someswari were presented to writers contributing to the promotion of Bodo literature. Assam Cabinet Minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma and Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary attended the event. Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma will be the chief guest at open session, highlighting the Sabha’s role in promoting Bodo language, literature, and culture nationally and internationally.
