GUWAHATI, Jan 17: Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Saturday interacted with 25 students from the Kashmir Valley who are on a Bharat Darshan tour organised by 13 BN, SSB, Dignibal (J&K), at a programme held at Lok Bhavan.
The Bharat Darshan programme is organised annually under the Civic Action Programme by Central Armed Police Forces, including the SSB, CRPF and BSF, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, with the objective of exposing Kashmiri youth to India’s cultural, historical and educational diversity.
Welcoming the students to Assam, the gateway to the Northeast, the Governor said that despite the geographical distance between Kashmir and Assam, both regions are emotionally and culturally connected as integral parts of India.
He described the students’ visit as a reflection of the nation’s unity and diversity.
Emphasising the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat, Acharya said that differences in language, food and traditions enrich the country, while the Constitution, democracy and shared values bind its people together.
He noted that programmes like Bharat Darshan help strengthen emotional bonds and mutual understanding among the youth of different regions.
The Governor highlighted cultural similarities between Kashmir and Assam, including respect for elders, love for art, music and handicrafts, closeness to nature and a strong sense of community.
He also spoke about Assam’s contributions to the freedom struggle, defence, natural resources and biodiversity, describing the state as a symbol of harmony and resilience.
Calling youth the true builders of the nation, Acharya urged the students to share their positive experiences of Assam with their families and peers and act as messengers of peace, harmony and national unity.
He encouraged them to take advantage of opportunities in education, skill development, entrepreneurship and sports, and contribute meaningfully to the country’s progress.
