SIVASAGAR, Jan 24: Sivasagar Newspaper Hawkers Association on Saturday organised a meeting to pay tributes to Pradip Baruah, illustrious editor and publisher of the popular magazine Prantik, who died recently.
Hem Baruah, former president of Rangpur Sahitya Sabha, lit the ceremonial lamp before the portrait of Baruah and paid glowing tributes to the editor who preferred remaining away from media glare.

Dr Prakash Kotoky said that Pradip Baruah was a man of great self-esteem who did not want to live in the shadow of his illustrious father, RG Baruah. Gakul Mohan Hazarika, former Trade Adviser of Assam in Kolkata and Director of Administrative Staff College, recalled Pradip Baruah’s singular contribution in creating new writers in the Assamese language.
Dipali Bhattacharjya Baruah said that Prantik was like Pradip Baruah’s son and he was emotionally involved in the magazine’s well-being. Anoj Kumar Borthakur also paid tributes and said that Pradip Baruah’s Prantik would remain the most sought-after Assamese magazine even in foreign countries.
Mukul Nath described it as a rare magazine that has kept the light and breath of the Assamese community burning for decades. The event was also addressed by Pranjal Borpujari, Raju Nath, Krishna Goswami and JN Gogoi.
