SIVASAGAR, Jan 31: Socio-cultural organisation Agantuk observed the 85th birth anniversary of legendary singer Dipali Borthakur with a function held at Seujia Sangeet Vidyalaya on Saturday.
Delivering the anniversary lecture on Dipali Borthakur’s songs and life, noted writer and literary pensioner Dipali Bhattacharyya Baruah said that Dipali Borthakur won the hearts of the Assamese people over several decades through her immortal songs and inimitable voice. “Akashvani, Shillong and Guwahati centres were enriched by the legendary singer’s songs. Her songs reflected the heartbeats of Assamese society,” she added. Dipali Borthakur carried with her the cultural roots of the Sivasagar Assamese society.
Sahida Begum, a 4th semester student of Sibsagar University, also spoke on the life of Dipali Borthakur. Earlier, writer Haren Chandra Nath inaugurated the programme with a short speech, while Sonaram Baruah, former principal of Sibsagar Girls’ College, lit the ceremonial light.
Plabita Bora played Dipali Borthakur’s songs on the violin, while radio artist Pranoti Baruah sang the legendary numbers. A number of children also performed Dipali Borthakur’s songs during the programme.
