Poi-Fura-Lung convention and Kon Seng silver jubilee celebrations

MARGHERITA, Feb 12: The Tai Ahom community of Margherita Co-District will celebrate the Poi-Fura-Lung-Mung-Sun-Khaam Central full-fledged Convention and Kon Seng Silver Jubilee Jayanti Divas at Ulup Cheng Ren Playground from March 3 to 5.

The Poi-Fura-Lung-Dun-Sun-Khaam Central executive committee will organise a Banfi Puja and erect Lai Khuta at Ulup Chow-Cheng-Ran Playground on Thursday.

Chow Rubul Phukan and Chow Jayanta Dehing, president and general secretary of the central executive committee, said that on March 5, 2000, the local Tai Ahom community made a Kong (big drum) from a nearby tree and established it at Ulup Chow Cheng Ren Playground. Since then, Kong Cheng Divas has been celebrated annually.

During the three-day programme, events will include a cultural rally, ethnic food stalls, book fair, Tai cultural festival, sports competitions, open sessions and felicitation ceremonies.

Assam Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Union Minister Pabitra Margherita, Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma, along with intellectuals, noted educationists, writers, poets, and eminent thinkers of the Tai Ahom community, will attend the three-day event.
