PM to visit Kokrajhar on March 13

KOKRAJHAR, Feb 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the Bodo heartland of Kokrajhar on March 13, where he will participate in a major public programme and lay the foundation stone for a railway line connecting Kokrajhar with Bhutan.

Officials said the proposed rail link is expected to significantly boost regional connectivity, trade and economic prospects in the Bodoland region as well as strengthen cross-border ties with Bhutan.

During the visit, the Prime Minister is also likely to inaugurate and announce several other important development projects.

To review preparations for the high-profile visit, Assam chief secretary Ravi Kota visited Kokrajhar on Monday and inspected arrangements at the Greenfield ground, the venue for the public gathering.

Assam cabinet minister Jayanta Malla Baruah also accompanied him during the inspection.

The officials reviewed helipad preparations, security arrangements and infrastructure facilities required for the large public event.

Following the inspection, the Chief Secretary and the minister held a review meeting at the BTC Secretariat to assess readiness and coordinate administrative measures.

BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary was present during the inspection and review process.

According to minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, after the Kokrajhar programme on March 13, the Prime Minister is expected to attend several other events across Assam on March 14 as part of his visit to the state.
