The facility will function as a centre for advanced technology development, innovation and talent incubation in Assam, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital capabilities and cybersecurity.

The new unit was inaugurated by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in the presence of Kaizad Bharucha, Deputy Managing Director – HDFC Bank; Ramesh Lakshminarayan, Chief Information Officer, HDFC Bank; senior government officials; representatives of participating educational institutions; and bank officers.

This is HDFC Bank’s first Tech & Digital Factory in Assam and its fourth nationwide, following similar facilities in Mumbai, Bengaluru and Gurugram.

The Guwahati centre is expected to create career opportunities for skilled professionals in the state, enabling them to contribute to next-generation banking technology.

The Bank aims to strengthen AI, Cloud, Data and core engineering capabilities through this facility, while opening up digital product creation capabilities in the region.

The initiative is part of HDFC Bank’s partnership with the Government of Assam under Advantage Assam 2.0, signed in February 2025.

Under this collaboration, the Bank and the state government have introduced a structured skill-building curriculum focused on BFSI and fintech sectors, aligning academic knowledge with industry requirements.

The programme, which commenced in September 2025, currently has over 150 students undergoing training. Participants receive industry-relevant knowledge and hands-on exposure from senior HDFC Bank executives.

As part of the initiative, students will undertake internships with the Bank for a period of two to four months, gaining real-world corporate experience.

The course is offered at no additional cost to students.

Kaizad Bharucha said the Bank was pleased to operationalise the facility within one year of signing the MoU at Advantage Assam 2.0, crediting strong support from the state government.

He noted that the centre would enhance the Bank’s IT capabilities, enable rollout of new digital products and services, and help attract engineering talent from Assam while allowing them to work closer to home.

HDFC Bank’s Tech & Digital Factory model functions as a hub for digital execution, with dedicated teams focused on experience design, mobile and cloud engineering, APIs and orchestration, data and GenAI, and secure-by-design architecture.

Assam has played a key role in the Bank’s growth since it opened its first branch in Guwahati in 2004.

As of December 31, 2025, the Bank operates 138 branches and 248 ATMs across the state. According to the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) report, HDFC Bank’s credit-deposit (CD) ratio in Assam stood at 85.78 per cent as of the same date.
