Six arrested for assaulting police team in Bijni

KOKRAJHAR, Feb 24: Six persons have been arrested in connection with the alleged attack on a police team at No. 2 Bhalatal in Bijni under Chirang district on Monday night.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Abdus Salam, his wife Nureza Begum, Ali Hussain, Abdul Latif, Sahajamal Ali and Sahadat Ali.

According to police sources, Abdus Salam and Abdul Latif were accused in a land-related dispute case.

Acting on a warrant issued by the Bijni Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate’s Court, a nine-member police team led by Officer-in-Charge of Bijni Police Station, Ritu Jyoti Nath, went to apprehend the accused on Monday night.

However, the accused persons, along with some family members, allegedly launched a group attack on the police team during the operation.

Chirang Senior Superintendent of Police Dhruva Bora visited Bijni Police Station on Tuesday afternoon following the incident and addressed a press conference regarding the matter.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
