GUWAHATI, Feb 25: Assuming the position of Chairperson of the India–Philippines Friendship Group does not mean that Gaurav Gogoi has been cleared of the charges of sedition against him. His alleged links with Pakistan are matters involving the interests of both India and Pakistan. For this reason, the Assam Government has forwarded the SIT report to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. This was stated by BJP spokesperson Devajit Mahanta at a press conference held at the state BJP headquarters. The Lok Sabha Secretariat invites members from various political parties to constitute committees on different subjects. The responsibility for selecting Members of Parliament for such committees rests with the Congress Parliamentary Board. Once the Congress Parliamentary Board submits its list of nominees, the Lok Sabha Secretariat announces the committees with the approval of the Speaker. This is a well-established parliamentary convention.
Dr Mahanta questioned why Congress workers did not promote or publicise MP Pradyut Bordoloi on social media when he was included in the committee formed to garner international support for Operation Sindoor, while they are now aggressively publicising the appointment of Gaurav Gogoi.

He further reminded Congress workers that, at the same time, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha has appointed the president of the Assam BJP and MP from the Darrang–Udalguri Lok Sabha constituency, Dilip Saikia, as Chairperson of the India–Thailand Friendship Group and has appointed MP Ajit Bhuyan as a member of the India–Saudi Arabia Friendship Group. Therefore, merely being appointed Chairperson of the India–Philippines Friendship Group does not absolve Gaurav Gogoi of the charges of sedition. The investigation into his alleged Pakistan links will continue.
Dr Mahanta also stated at the press conference that if Gaurav Gogoi had indeed travelled with his newly married wife to Taxila in Rawalpindi, he should make public photographs of himself and his wife taken in Taxila.
He further remarked that if Gaurav Gogoi could travel to an enemy nation like Pakistan at his wife’s request, then why is he unable to find time to visit the Vrindavani Vastra of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva preserved at the London Museum in London, which is located in his wife’s homeland.
At the press conference, Dr Mahanta sought answers to two questions regarding Gaurav Gogoi’s alleged Pakistan links: First, why did Gaurav Gogoi travel to Pakistan for ten days, where did he stay and what activities did he undertake there? Second, why and how did Gaurav Gogoi’s wife, while working with an Indian NGO, receive remuneration from a Pakistani NGO?
Dr Mahanta concluded by stating that regardless of how much Congress workers attempt to use Gaurav Gogoi’s appointment as Chairperson of a friendship group to shield him from allegations of sedition, Gaurav Gogoi remains guilty of sedition and judicial institutions will through due legal process, soon convict and punish him accordingly.
